Why do you work at Flybits?
One of the most exciting aspects of working at Flybits is the opportunity that it provides. I like how the company is going through a transformational period from a startup to a scaleup. It provides me with a lot of exciting opportunities to make a difference and create an impact, both from a process and product perspective. Another key highlight is Flybits’ culture. It is a place not only for people with the same passion to strive for a common goal, but also a platform for people to socialize, meet new people and grow together.
Why do you love people operations?
I’ve always had a passion for understanding why people behave how they behave, especially in an organizational setting. That’s why I studied employment relations and human resources at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Toronto. A lot of people have misconceptions about human resources and think it’s just a supporting function to hire or fire people. It’s a lot more than just that. Human capital is one of the greatest assets an organization has. How we attract, maintain, and develop talent is our end goal. To me, people operations means acting as a business partner to support stakeholders and provide value to help the organization grow. And that’s why I love my job. I get to interact with different people daily, understand what they want, what we need, and how we can improve by implementing new initiatives and action plans from a people and culture perspective.
Is there a motto or slogan that guides you personally and professionally?
I believe that “positive is negative, negative is positive.” A lot of pleasant experiences won’t create any impact and add any value to your life. All the challenges, difficulties and problems you face provide powerful lessons for self-growth and self-improvement. So, appreciate the discomfort, it might provide a critical turning point to shape who you are and who you want to be.
Besides work, what do you enjoy the most about Flybits?
I enjoy talking to people and learning about their stories. Besides my work at Flybits, one of the side projects I’ve been working on is providing mentorship to new grads. Few things are as rewarding as helping new talent discover their career passion, guide them through the job search and interviewing process, and land that perfect job.
