How did you get into the fintech industry?
When we first started Flybits, we explored different industries but some of our banking partners helped us quickly realize there was a major opportunity there. That happened to be just before the fintech revolution hit. From the beginning, our vision was to partner with banks, versus compete with them and that has stayed true since day one.
Who is your greatest mentor?
The founder and chairman of SoftBank, Masayoshi Son, who is also a Japanese technology entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. He has an extremely long term perspective on what is possible. By staying open and opportunistic, he turned what was once a telco into a multi-billion dollar conglomerate.
I bring loyalty and commitment to the organization, I like to lead by example. We celebrate every win and learn from every loss together.
What attracts you to your current role?
As Chief Growth Officer, how I engage with my team is very different from when I was running a specific business department. I get to work with some brilliant people, my contribution is focused on removing barriers to help them be their best and fly with impact. I strive to create an open space that encourages diversity of thought and approaches challenges with a multi-dimensional perspective.
What’s your approach to learning?
I’ve always enjoyed coupling my work experience with higher education. The reason for that is that higher education allows me to think big and without barriers whereas work gives me a pragmatic and implementation focus. Harnessing both aspects helps me to build a better life.
How would you describe yourself?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. On the career side, I like to do things with purpose and impact. I’m proud of my parents, I want to continue the same legacy and make my kids proud.
What do you bring to the table? I bring a sense of loyalty and commitment to the organization, I like to lead by example, and I never intend for people to do more than what I would do myself.
